Our Story

After meeting in an Oxfam bookshop in Guildford, Surrey, where Chris was the manager and Emma a volunteer, we knew that we wanted to have our own little space where book lovers like us could come together and find their next reads, or the perfect gifts for family and friends.

However, faced with the challenge of finding an affordable way to make our dream a reality, we decided to take a unique approach by launching a mobile bookshop that travels to our customers in the Lake District rather than opening a physical shop on the high street that we simply couldn't afford. We started operating and visiting markets with our bookshop van Nomadic Books in November 2024 and loved being our and about (when it wasn't freezing). However, we didn't manage to find enough spots that allow us to park up on a regular basis, which is why, when the opportunity arouse, we decided to go brick and mortar after all. Thereby, we also managed to incorporate our coffee shop and wine bar dream aspect. We are dedicated to creating a perfect relaxing and modern space for book, coffee, and wine lovers and to fill the gap in the market in the Lake District.

We believe that our personal touch and dedication to sharing our love for books make us stand out as a new independent bookshop.
